William Breakenridge was a tough lawman who chased many outlaws through Arizona. He was born in Watertown, Wisconsin and ran away from home to join the army. After the Civil War, he moved to Denver and worked at many jobs in the city. He then became a sheriff, but gave it up in 1884 to become a rancher. After 2 years of this, he became a U.S. Marshall. He died of a heart attack on January 31, 1931 at the age of eighty-five.
