William Matthew Tilghman was born at Fort Dodge, Iowa, on July 4, 1854. He earned a reputation for never killing anybody without a reason. Tilghman had many jobs in Dodge City, Lincoln County and Oklahoma City. He tracked and captured such outlaws as Bill Doolin and Bill Raidler. William Tilghman was killed when he was 70 by another lawman.
